Guilt and Robot Cops

ff3Ugh i almost missed a fatherhood friday.

We’ve both been sick as hell for the last few days.  Like, hacking and spitting up mucous in the middle of the night sick.  Fever, cold rag on forehead sick.  Lots of dry heaving, too tired to make out sick.

thxAnd it made me worried.  What happens to the twins when i’m sick?  What happens when they need to be soothed, and i’m coughing loud and angrily at them?  What happens when they need to be bathed, and i’m projectile vomiting?  There’s no calling out sick with babies.  What do parents do?  Take antibiotics year round?  Convert their houses to white, sterile environments like in THX-1138?  Do they hire those robot cops as nannies?  What if the robot cops turn on me, steal my babies, rename them Lal and Borg Queen and try to raise them as cute little androids, bent on destroying all humans?

Despite being totally dogshit sick, my wife and i have had to go to our 3 or so doctor appointments this week, and have had to press on with work to the nursery.  Those babies sure better appreciate it.  In fact, i really hope the internet still exists in 15 years, so that when they start complaining about how unfair life is, i can show them all of this and make them feel guilty.  If not, i’ll administer the beatings until they do, robot cop style.

So that i didn’t have to write a lot this week, and instead can go back to dayquil, halls and television, i made an awkward and embarrasing video using my new kodak zi6.  I’m not only camera-shy, but i sound like a retarded muppet because my throat is so swollen and covered with phlegm.  You at least get to meet my wife.

    I’d happy trade you voices.

And as for the the room, it looks sweet now but you know in 15 years they will be wondering what the hell people back then where thinking. ?Green and purple?

    *Happily* rather

Also, don’t worry about the sick thing with kids. By actually getting this post up you’ve already proved you have what it takes.

  • least your voice is worthy of being heard on video or whatever. trust me, you don’t want to hear mine. even mrs. apok’s voice is better. the vid came out good w that thing. your wife rocks getting you that for father’s day. what is the theme for the nursery? i’m curious w the color scheme. btw, from experience whenever moms are sick we’re expected to do everything, when dads are sick, they lay in bed, whine, and want us to wait on them hand & foot. glad to see you’re not like that :)

  • Oh i’ve done plenty of whining.

  • Cute clip. I’m sorry to hear that you are both sick and hope you are feeling better soon.
I need you in my daily chats so try to get back soon :)

  • Feel better soon. When you get sick like this after the babies arrive, it will suck. You just press through doing the bare minimum.

  • Love the colors in the nursery! Hope you feel better!

HAHAHA, it’s a Joker themed room!

J/K It looks awesome. LOVE the shelving unit between the windows. That’ll come in more handy than you know.

  • I hope you and Mrs. Apok feel better soon. I’m glad to see you up and around though. You got what it takes to be good parents when you’re sick. It’s ok if you whine when you’re sick, it’s expected. The nursery looks great, and no in 15 years your twins will not appreciate it or the effort you put into it. Sorry.

  • Dude. First THX-1138 reference I’ve seen on a daddy blog. Nice job. I feel a little less alone.

Hope you feel better, and don’t get all self-conscious now of the whining. We all do it. You’re showing that you’ve got what it takes. Fuggeddaboudit.
